Date 31 August 2017
Date updated 15 February 2019
Overview

Redbridge is a north eastern Outer London borough, which is 25% covered by forest and green spaces. It provides a mixed picture regarding poverty and inequality. The poverty rate of 25% is narrowly below the London average, as is the 19.9% of workers who are low-paid. Only a quarter of 19 year olds in Redbridge lack level 3 qualifications (A level equivalent) – the second lowest rate in London.

Housing is a weak area though.  Redbridge only gained 46 affordable homes in the three years leading up to 2015/2016 – the 5th lowest rate in London – and the eviction rate of 25.5 per 1000 renting households is the 4th highest rate in London.

The rankings below show how Redbridge is performing on key poverty and inequality indicators, in comparison with all 32 London boroughs. The first section gives a snapshot from the latest data: the deeper the red, the worse the problem; those coloured green are in the top half of London boroughs, which are performing better.

The circles show whether the issue is getting better or worse in comparison to previous period. Where there is no change, the circle is orange. Where there is no comparative data, the circle is grey.
