Poverty and inequality data for Enfield

Date 31 August 2017
Date updated 15 February 2019
Overview

Enfield is a borough in outer north London. Although its local poverty rate is only just below the London average, it has very significant problems around housing, homelessness and low pay.  Enfield has the highest eviction rate in the capital by a wide margin, with 34 evictions per every 1,000 renting households (compared to 28 per 1,000 in the second highest borough: Brent). This reflects the fact it has one of London's largest private rented sectors.

The unemployment rate in Enfield is only 4%, lower than the London average, but 31% of workers do not earn a living wage, 9 percentage points higher than the London average.

The rankings below show how Enfield is performing on key poverty and inequality indicators, in comparison with all 32 London boroughs. The first section gives a snapshot from the latest data: the deeper the red, the worse the problem; those coloured green are in the top half of London boroughs, which are performing better.

The circles show whether the issue is getting better or worse in comparison to previous period. Where there is no change, the circle is orange. Where there is no comparative data, the circle is grey.
