Poverty and inequality data for Bromley

Date 31 August 2017
Date updated 15 February 2019
Overview

Bromley is a south east, Outer London borough, and is the largest borough geographically in London. It has more farmland than any other borough. Only 15.3% of households in Bromley are below the poverty line, which is lower than every other borough except Richmond. It performs well on health indicators too, with the lowest premature mortality rate in the capital.

However, only 5% of housing completions in Bromley in the three years leading up to 2015/2016 were affordable – greater only than Bexley, Harrow, and Hammersmith & Fulham. This was more or less cancelled out by the amount of social housing which was demolished or converted into other types of accommodation in the same period. The net gain of social/affordable was just 22 new homes.

The rankings below show how Bromley is performing on key poverty and inequality indicators, in comparison with all 32 London boroughs. The first section gives a snapshot from the latest data: the deeper the red, the worse the problem; those coloured green are in the top half of London boroughs, which are performing better.

The circles show whether the issue is getting better or worse in comparison to previous period. Where there is no change, the circle is orange. Where there is no comparative data, the circle is grey.
